I have no experience using WordPress, will I be able to use Site Kite?
Yes! The Site Kite process has been specifically designed for people with no web or WordPress experience, allowing you to go from zero to launch fast. We do all the technical setup for you — the set and forget part of your web build — so you can then take ownership of your site and easily add content using our text prompts and seamless image intergation with Unsplash.
Any code needed or particular configurations to enhance your site is added by us at setup, so you don’t need to think about it.
We give you a site walkthrough at setup so you know how everything fits together. The entire design area uses visual drag-and-drop tools that are very intuitive and most users can work out without even looking at our tutorials in the Member Library. And you can ask as many questions as you need to along the way.
We also provide a free design review at the end of your site build to go over anything you’ve had trouble with and for some final on-the-spot troubleshooting or extra design flair.
Do I have to use WordPress or can I use another CMS like Squarespace?
We plan to offer our system and blueprint for other platforms too, but for now we’re focussing exclusively on WordPress as that was the predominant need that came out of our customer research.
WordPress is great for startups as it is endlessly flexible, with a myriad of integrations to suit your changing needs as your business grows. While Squarespace is great for some businesses, it’s not the best solution for everyone and WordPress just ticks more boxes across the board.
Can I host my site on WordPress.com?
Nope. We use the standard WordPress.org and host all of our sites on Flywheel’s Australian-based servers. I know, it can be confusing, but here’s a good explanation of the differences between the .com and .org versions of WP. We host all of our sites on WP Engine’s WordPress-optimised Australian servers. WP Engine’s superior hosting includes blazing-fast site speed, CDN, SSL certificates, hacker-free security, free staging (test) site, and best of all, 24/7 customer support from real humans. The minimal extra cost of a premium host like WP Engine pays for itself in no time.
What is Elementor?
Elementor is the page builder we use to buid every Site Kite website. It’s what allows you to edit your site visually, and to customise every element of your site in far more detail that from a single theme.
The Site Kite blueprint and all of our templates are built using Elementor Pro, so you can easily add new pages and swap out content
blocks as your business grows, without having to start from a blank page.
Elementor Pro also replaces the need for a bunch of other WordPress plugins, saving you loads of dosh and headaches buying and maintaining extra third-party plugins. Minimising your plugins also improves site performance — because the fewer plugins you use, the fewer issues you have with site security, speed, compatibility, functionality and reliability. All important for customer retention and search rank.
We use the Pro version of Elementor as while the free version is great, it has it’s limitations. We pack a lot of punch into Site Kite websites and Elementor Pro is key to getting everything included witha minimum number of extra plugins. Here’s a comparison table showing the differences between the free and pro versions of Elementor.
Kite Pro members have the Elementor Pro annual license covered by us. Kite Starter members will only have access to our license for a year from the date of the initial site build. After that you will need to pay for your own license (US$49/year) or modify your design to use only the free Elementor blocks.
How much do you charge?
For a website only (Kite Starter), we charge $750 (incl. GST). We also offer a membership (Kite Pro) for $99/month and also give members a $150 discount on their Kite Starter build.
View the Pricing page for an outline of our fee structure.
Can I choose my own theme or am I tied in to using the theme you have selected?
One of the best parts of our process is that the theme actually matters very little. The look and feel of your site is custom designed by us at Site Kite, and is in no way reflective of a particular theme design.
We usually load up the Elementor Hello theme as the foundation for most startup sites. Hello is basically a blank page, it’s really lightweight (making your site super fast), and allows us to design your site using the Elementor Pro page builder, without having to worry about the theme itself. This basically lets us build the site pages from scratch in a way that is easy for you to update in a myriad of different ways in the future. With it’s vast collection of template and page layout options, Elementor is at the forefront of web standards (and is the most popular page builder used on WordPress), moving your site way beyond a single theme and the restrictions that come with that. You can change the look and feel of your site easily without needing a new theme, but if you ever needed more firepower down the track, a new theme can be integrated with your setup, as long as it is compatible with Elementor (here’s a list of approved themes, with many more available via other sources).
